Youth

Kevin attended Central Coast Christian Academy for Pre-Kindergarten. He transferred to Branch Elementary School for K-2, then returned to CCCA for 3-5, before finishing elementary school back at Branch.

He attended Paulding Junior High School for 7th and 8th grades. Kevin was in the marching band and was involved in setting up the school's first computer lab.

High school

Clubs and organizations

In his freshman year, Kevin was a member of the Arroyo Grande High School marching band and occasionally visited the lunchtime chess club. Over the next few years, he became very active in several other clubs, and in his Senior year, he was simultaneously president of both the AFS club and CSF honor society, an officer in S.A.D.D., and Sgt. at Arms in Key Club.

Academics and awards

Kevin's electives included ROP courses in landscape architecture and advanced projects in computer science. It was especially in computers that he excelled, and thus earned both the AGHS Computer Science award and Bank of America award for Computer Science in his Senior year. He also received the Elk’s Student of the Month award and the Presidential Academic Fitness Award award. Kevin was a National Merit® Scholarship Finalist based on his PSAT scores in his Junior year, and he was a California Scholarship Federation honor society Life Member.

Of all the honors he received, Kevin was most proud of being the Salutatorian of his graduating class and for being selected as one of the three commencement speakers. Kevin graduated third in his class behind the two valedictorians with a 3.97 GPA.

College

Not having a clue which one of his many interests to follow, Kevin attended Cuesta College for several years sampling a wide variety of courses and participating in a number of extra-curricular activities. He was elected for two terms as the student representative on the Cuesta College Board of Trustees (commonly referred to as the "Student Trustee"). Kevin qualified as a life member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma honor society, but at another time ended up on academic and progress probation. His GPA at Cuesta was only 2.82, and he transferred to Cal Poly State University a few units short of earning an Associates Degree.

Kevin's interest in computers became much stronger, and he became very active in the growing BBS and online computing community in San Luis Obispo. Kevin started using his middle name, Will, as an online "handle" or alias. Before long, many friends were getting confused because of these dual names. When Kevin moved in with a housemate also named Kevin, the change to "Will" became permanent. This also coincided with his enrollment at Cal Poly, which, being a fresh start, also helped with the name transition. He left Cal Poly after only one year.

He has also taken several computer and business course at Alan Hancock College, Sacramento Sate Regional and Continuing Eduction Program, and Sacramento City College where he maintains a 4.0 GPA.

Professional life

While attending Cal Poly, Will worked as night manager/auditor for the Pacific Suites luxury hotel, improving management systems and policies. As a graphic design major with a lifelong love of computers, he founded a graphic design firm, which was one of the first to offer Website design in the area. After school, he started taking on other types of work, focusing more on computer consulting and networking.

In 1996, Will was hired as one of the Camp Directors at the Space Endeavour Camp at Vandenberg Air Force Base. This led to a position of CIO/Network Administrator for the Endeavour Institute at Arroyo Grande High School, making him an associate staff member at the high school from 1996 through 1998. Will, Dr. Avila, Joey Duncan, other students, and members of the community formed the Central Coast Aerospace Modeling Society and started local chapters at AGHS and Lompoc High School.

In 1999, Will's combination of proven leadership and management skills, along with an aggressive entrepreneurial spirit, led him to follow the "Dot.com" dream, and he co-founded an online auction company in Sacramento. Unfortunately, the Dot.com bust came crashing down around the fledgling business. Will decided to work with a "Smart Reseller Top-20" company in Sacramento, doing what he does best: computer and network consulting and service. In January of 2001, Will reestablished himself as an independent business owner and founded a successful computer and network consulting business, supported by some of the best and brightest consultants in the field. In June 2004, Will was selected as the Chief Operations Officer (COO) and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the newly formed Acorn IT Group.

Certifications

Will has earned the following certifications: CompTIA A+, CompTIA I-Net+, Microsoft Certified Professional + Internet (MCP and MCP+I), Microsoft Certified System Engineer in Windows NT 4.0 (MCSE). Additionally, Will has completed two semesters of the Cisco Networking Academy program (CCNA) and many other computer and networking related courses.
