Five Cities

The Five Cities area on the California Central Coast includes the cities of Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, Pismo Beach, and the communities of Oceano and Shell Beach.
In the years since the moniker was created, Shell Beach became part of the city of Pismo Beach, though the quaint local culture of Shell Beach remains distinct from the more "beach city" atmosphere of Pismo Beach.
Occasionally the community of Avila Beach is considered to be one of the Five Cities. More recently, Nipomo has been considered one of the Five Cities, at least by some websites. Purists and long-time residents would disagree with either community being included.
